It helped the government of the country to reform and improve overall economic and social condition of these territor ies. In addition to this, government of the United States of America succeeded to expand fundamental democratic rights into the Northwest region. Aspects like Freedom of speech for common people, no slavery, trial by jury and freedom of speech for press were guaranteed by the Congress. In addition to this, government of the United States of America succeeded to prepare a constitution for the country including these territories and states which approved by the Congress. Several developed laws and regulations developed by the government of states helped to maintain peace and control the social life in the newly developed states. Rationing was necessary during the World War II at the United States homefront, because the needs of men and women who are serving abroad must be met and considered. Conservation of the aforementioned commodities and other basic items were significant factors for the overall success of the war efforts, since shipping capabilities were limited due to the conversion of public cargo ships to military use in order to aid the war efforts. The necessity of adoption in the world is astounding. Currently, there is an estimated 143 million orphans worldwide (Wingert, vol.151). As of 2007, there were 513,000 children living in foster care within the United States alone (Rousseau 21:14). International adoption in the United States was jumpstarted post World War II as a way of helping those children who were left homeless, after war had taken their parents. Although there are thousands of healthy children awaiting adoption in the United States, several American couples still turn to foreign adoption when seeking potential children. Americans often fail to realize the need for intervention within their own country and their duty to take care of domestic affairs before venturing to other countries to attempt to rescue foreigners in need. International adoption in the United States must be abolished, since it is detrimental to prospective parents and their potential children. Injustices surrounding international adoption often results in a harmful impact on the children involved. Hollingsworth examines the harmful implications that are associated with international adoption: The adoption of children from other countries by U.S. families presents the risk that these children will be deprived of an opportunity to know and have access to their birth families- an infringement on the basic rights of these children compared with more advantaged children in their country of origin or in the United States. (48:209) International adoption can result in a lost connection to a child’s culture. This loss of culture confuses the child who is now forced to grow up in an American society that is so different than what they are used to. Children, who can be domest... ...at is only seeking to profit, instead of to unite children with families who care. For young children â€Å"to be removed from one’s family of origin or be killed or forever ostracized is not a choice that should be imposed on the world’s children† (Hollingsworth 48:209). Just because the faces of the neglected youth of America are not flashed across the television screen or plastered on posters, does not mean they do not exist. The ignored youth of America need people to care for them as if they were born into their family. Hollingsworth expresses his realization that â€Å"children’s rights to be raised in a safe healthy environment by their biological families and in their cultures of origin are primary and should be equally available to all children†(48:209) especially those in the United States, where the protection of the youth is crucial.

Compare and Contrast Three Hostels in Sydney Essay

There are a lot of hostels in Sydney which are attracted because of its price and facilities. However, there are only three hostels that are suitable with postgraduate students, namely Maze Backpackers, Central Station Hotel and Nomads Westend Backpackers. This report will compare and contrast them with regard to location, price and facilities. Firstly, the location is contrasted between all these hostels. Central Station Hotel has the best location. It is near Central Station which is easily accessible by train, taxi and bus. While Maze Backpackers is in 417 Pitt Street and is located 5 minutes walking from this hostel to Central Station, Nomads Westend Backpackers is next to Central Station and its address is 412 Pitt Street. Secondly, the price is the most important feature is considered among three hostels and the price of rooms for each hostels is completely different. Central Station Hotel has only private rooms while Maze Backpackers and Nomads Westend Backpackers have shared rooms and private rooms. The cost of shared room with 4 beds in Maze Backpackers is $20. 58 whereas the cost of shared room whit 4 beds in Nomad Westend Backpackers is $23. 07 so it’s more expensive than Maze Backpackers’s. The private room in Central Station Hotel is the most expensive. It cost $38. 68 whereas a private room at Maze Backpackers and Nomads Westend Backpackers cost $17. 4 and $20. 94 respectively. Finally, there are some similarities and differences in their facilities. All of them have the Internet/Wifi, 24 hour reception; washing machines, safety deposit and credit card accepted but Maze Backpackers and Nomad Westend Backpackers are more convenient than Central Station Hotel because they have lounge area. However, Central Station is suitable with postgraduate students who need to use photocopying machines.

The Violent And Perverse System Of Human Trafficking

Slavery has been around for ages. There has always been someone forcing others to do their will. But slavery drags on in modern times, especially today. Modern day slavery, otherwise known as human trafficking, is defined by Encyclopedia Britannica as â€Å"...the illegal transport of individuals by force or deception for the purpose of labor, sexual exploitation, or activities in which others benefit financially† (â€Å"Human†). Slavery is not an issue of the past. It has waxed and waned throughout history, and will never cease unless something is done to stop it. Human trafficking is a serious issue in the world, the United States, and even in Iowa. The violent and perverse system of human trafficking is a worldwide system. They may threaten to deport them, take their (false) travel documents or hurt their families (â€Å"Human†). Overall, human trafficking, in essence, is a brutal industry. Since human trafficking is such an unjust thing, many, including the United States, have risen to combat it. In the 1990s there was a surge of human trafficking cases worldwide. Years later in 2005, the Georgetown Journal of International Affairs published an article about the fight against human trafficking. They noted in their article that numerous non-governmental organizations (NGOs) were formed in order to combat this surge of modern day slavery (Coonan). The United Nations also became involved in the 1990s. They treated human trafficking mainly as a law enforcement issue and so began forming what would later be called the UN Convention Against Transnational Organized Crime (the Convention) (Coonan). The Convention is not centered around lobbying and human rights groups, but on law enforcement and crime prevention. Therefore the crime must be defined.
